Ok ok so I was a little late to the party today but thanks to Tim’s Nano prompts

and some encouragement from CampNaNoWriMo cabin mates, I managed to get off to a flying start ringing in at 860 words. A lot of which were used to explore a character so I’m happy with this. I need to keep most of it under wraps however I can share the warm up waning moon sprint.

The moon wanes to a fingernail as the hollow shriek of the foxes call out in the darkness. I hear them play at night, their soft paws padding on the lawn, noses snuffling into trash cans and paper bags left folded under the guise of recycling. Nobody ever washes out the jars though, nor the plastic packets curled around meat haunches which the fox kits love to lick and suck . They come from far and wide to this hot spot, the only place in the neighbourhood where people are too lazy to rinse.

Hope everyone else enjoyed a good first day, and remember there is plenty of time to catch up !

Creative writing meets Warcraft

There was a writing prompt a while back on the Warcraft forums for an interaction between characters. I had forgotten this little interaction I wrote up which is based in game on a possible conversation found in the World’s End Tavern in Shattrath.

If you play the game you might even know who these girls are talking about *winks*

“She thinks she is so darn cool!

Always hanging around in her tight red pants selling her portable holes to shady looking customers. I don’t know what he sees in her, I really don’t”

I sighed and ordered another Lagrave, listening to Leatei’s latest heartbreak story was thirsty work.

“And they let her bring that mutt in here as a special favour to Siggy, all that special treatment, it’s just wrong. Albert wasn’t allowed to bring his pet in was he? I mean, ok it was a bombling, but that’s not the point is it?”

Pressing a drink into her hands, I looked around the bar wondering if the band would bring in an extra crowd tonight. The tavern had been getting quieter for a while now and the chances of Leatei finding another perfect guy in here were getting slim.

“I don’t know why we drink this stuff, it’s not very feminine, we should drink the noir like Harris. I bet that’s what it is, that’s why he prefers her..I am getting fat on this stout!”

“You are not getting fat” I say “you look great, and you are the best dancer in this place, Siggy will come running back once he figures out that Harris is only out for a man who can keep up with her excessive demands for gems”

She smiled at that, the first smile all night, thank the skies and I was just as I was beginning to think we might get a good night out after all; until Saul shouted the announcement of the band. Then I saw Leatei’s face drop as she watched Sig present Harris with the biggest black diamond ring I had ever seen.

There was only one to do…

“Kylene, can we get another round of Lagraves over here please, and keep em coming”

And just for the record, it’s because it tastes like chocolate and what is there not to like about that!

Procrastination day!

So today for me was a day of delaying – so many things to do, so little umph available to get them done.

I had planned to do..well lots of stuff however what I did was pretty much nothing.

Then at 7pm a conflict struck my dabbling.

Warcraft Q&A was due on twitch with the lovely @holinka & @CM_Lore

 

but

CampNaNoWriMo was also putting up word sprints on YouTube and I did still need to get motivated to write

So who did I choose?

Well I kind of chose both..

The girls over at Nano were the first to start streaming so I joined in with the warm up sprint. By which time The guys had started rolling out the Warcraft info so for the next Nano sprint I only got 91 words due to being distracted by Holinka’s words regarding differing types of players and nodding in agreement that for some (myself included) gearing is part of my characters individual progression but for others they want to be geared before the game for them starts – Ok so I might have muddled the words but the sentiment is there.

Then a swap back over to the mystery activity for the Nanogirls & a great ad lib sonnet including the epic coining of the phrase “Eternal rubber ducky” *giggles* Then a join in with the prompt ‘ Write a passage ignoring setting, don’t mention anything about the setting and see how far you get’ Which is actually a lot harder than you imagine and I think I will pick this back up again to try out another time.

Another jump back to the boys talking about racial traits and the desire to make each racial interesting and compelling not just equal. Personally I just choose a race to match what I would consider their character to be like however I know most will just choose what they consider to be the best for their play style, or at least what somebody else on the internet has claimed to be the ‘best’ option.

Then back over to the Nano for prompt 3  which I admit to just saving for tomorrow to play around with. I also was around for the discount code for the Nanoshop too so I might well go purchase that mug I have my eye on though I will need to check the shipping I guess after being stung by my last Blizzard order and the extra Fed-ex charges *shakes fist*

Also during this twitter was a popping with the news of the new Star Wars trailer so that’s something to look forward too at the end of the year 🙂

As you can tell..today was a jack of all trades master of none day so maybe I shall just work on actually doing stuff tomorrow *winks*

P.S I forgot to say hooray for getting a mention on from the Nanogirls too, I have now had one line of my work spoken out loud and online whoot 😀

Ah but today they actually do!

My writing stats for today are as follows

CampNaNoWriMo story – Words -493

CampNaNoWriMo virtual write in – Words – 354 + 351 + 215 = 920

Email x 2 = 1091

Total words today= 2504 *cheers*

OK so I’m not going to put them into my count however it’s nice just to know that they are there. They are mine, and I can use the prompts to springboard from. I even think i have added a twist into my story from them so thanks Lauren & Chris!

The prompts –

Trading spaces – Are your characters trying to change their environment or are they being changed by them. Do the opposite

Absolute chaos – Just introduce chaos into your scene and lots of it! – in the last 30 secs we were told to introduce something even more chaotic – the twist!

Present, real, or imaginary — Describe a place that your MC finds meaningful. – somewhere your character finds meaning/comfort – where and why?

Right that’s my lot for tonight *hangs up typing hands*
