Ok ok so I was a little late to the party today but thanks to Tim’s Nano prompts

Some pink fizzy stuff

and some encouragement from CampNaNoWriMo cabin mates, I managed to get off to a flying start ringing in at 860 words. A lot of which were used to explore a character so I’m happy with this. I need to keep most of it under wraps however I can share the warm up waning moon sprint.

The moon wanes to a fingernail as the hollow shriek of the foxes call out in the darkness. I hear them play at night, their soft paws padding on the lawn, noses snuffling into trash cans and paper bags left folded under the guise of recycling. Nobody ever washes out the jars though, nor the plastic packets curled around meat haunches which the fox kits love to lick and suck . They come from far and wide to this hot spot, the only place in the neighbourhood where people are too lazy to rinse.

Hope everyone else enjoyed a good first day, and remember there is plenty of time to catch up !

Shopping splurges & Twitter #FF

Every now and then I find myself in a little dip of moods so these days I try to keep a bit of money to the side so that when it hits I can have a little shopping splurge to cheer myself up again. Nothing like being woken with presents through the post, it’s like Christmas, only the postman doesn’t have a white beard and I tend not to leave him any milk and cookies out.

Anyhow I thought that since my twitter account might have been feeling a little Warcraft heavy of late and I didn’t get around to helping anyone out with an #FF yesterday then it might be time to show a bit of crafter love.

So here are my latest goodies from a splurge (in no particular order), and links to the wonderful artistic people so you can check them out for yourselves.

First up: Melissa Nettleship

Twitter @MillyJan
Etsy shop

I really liked her style of art and had been enjoying seeing the Alice in Wonderland theme pictures flashing up on Twitter, however there was something extra special about the Bear & Maiden one that I loved but I couldn’t justify a print with nowhere to put it. So when it got turned into a notepad that was me sold, and I was glad to find the funky kitty Avenger badges too. Oh and the bargain print that was on sale…well I couldn’t pass that up could I?

The Spotted Zebra Company

Another twitter spotted purchase .. yep I’m a sucker for em. But this bag was the perfect accompaniment to a dress that I have and after noticing my trusty canvas messenger bag was on it’s way out then I thought this could be a perfect replacement. (see how well I talked myself into that there). I have no excuse for the purse though other than the fact it amused me.

Rogue Fairy Boutique

Rogue Fairy Boutique – Etsy

Just a random Etsy find for me as I wanted something with the hand stamped lettering and was wavering over to the geeky side of things. I found the Nightmare before Christmas spiral first but then noticed The Shaun of the Dead bangle was on sale too so again <bargain hunter senses alerted>
They also sell some lovely looking spiral rings but I have no idea of my size so maybe that’s something for a future purchase 😀

All of these purchases came with speedy delivery & packaged with care, so actually it worked out better than Christmas because nobody used Yodel to deliver *cheers*

So that’s three places to check out, I have plenty more but I wouldn’t want to over load your credit cards all in one day 😉

‘Female’ fiction or ‘Adult’ fiction, where to go from here?

So I noticed today that there are only ten days to go before the next CampNaNoWriMo begins to get underway and I am already in turmoil about which piece of writing to carry on with. All I know for sure is that I am looking forward to getting stuck back into the everyday writing and I hope that previous cabin mates will be rejoining for the July camp as they were so encouraging and supportive

*crosses fingers*

I know that I want to save my last storyline and perhaps get stuck into that for November (yes I am now a full convert to Nanowrites) and use this one for something different.

Lately I have been catching up with some poetry writing that tends to usually come in drabs and spurts yet lately I have been feeling somewhat inspired, obviously some weird conversations have aided me in this 🙂

I also had some wonderful and fun prompts given to me by friends both knowingly and unbeknown so that has been fun and some even taking me out of my usual style of writing. A few bits even leading into what could only be described as risqué, which is fun to write however it can be a little blush worthy to share.

So the question is do I just throw myself over the hurdle or reign things in and call it ‘female fiction’ which just sounds so lame.

Humanity is not just for animals..

Community, Support

Last night was once of those nights where you suddenly realise that the inhumanity you see & feel around the world in everyday day life is actually not a true representation of how things could be. When it is proved that there are still many people who can join together and express great compassion and get results then it can restore our faith in humanity and set the world on balance.

Just to explain without trying to stir up any more heartache, in the early hours of the morning a tweet was sent out from someone in distress which sparked a catalogue of worried tweets within the Warcraft community. It didn’t take long for the word to spread around and people had put in some detective work to find details of a way to contact the person in order to send help if needed.
As a result of this wonderful community, today things are looking brighter and we can be reassured that the soul of humanity is still strong and thriving even though sometimes we are faced with the contrary popular opinion.

Whilst the press often give gamers a bad reputation and games are often demonised and being blamed as the source of influence for negative behaviour, it is good to see that that there are so many positive stories that often go unnoticed.

otterlink

If fact I often believe that the gaming community spirit will often surpass those of everyday communities. All too often in life we are greeted with unpleasant behaviour or people that need our help. And regrettably these calls for help or violent scenes are often ignored or just brushed under the carpet, so we can all keep ourselves safe no matter what happens to others.

Perhaps in this instance I am thinking more towards scenes I have seen, unprovoked attacks that have occurred and instances where life has been devalued to a level that is just cruel.

There was a time that a brick crashed through the window on a bus and everyone got off but ignored the poor girl that had been hit with it. I remember actually swearing at people to call an ambulance (my phone was dead at the time) whilst they ran off or stood looking.

A time when a guy collapsed in a toilet at work and people were pretty much stepping over his dead body to be served and getting annoyed that I was refusing.

Another instance of an elderly gent fallen down in the road and the nearest flat concierge (my flat even) would not come to help me lift him due to ‘health and safety’

I know I am always in danger of getting on my soap box and I do understand that there are things that happen in the world which we see and we are scared of interfering or scared to be get involved due to fear of safety. I also am aware that we are now more aware of ‘rules’ during work hours for fear of getting sued or told off. But it does strike me that when some things happen in real time it is often the case that people will ignore situations rather than put themselves out. When all it needs is a little bit of common sense to prevail.

As a community in general I often feel like we are so disjointed and often work against each other when we could be pulling together and making a difference,

I  see animals that display more humanity than humans sometimes and that is a worry for future generations. Our world is changing, our sense of what is right and wrong, and what levels of inhumanity we are prepared to accept is changing.

Sorry rambling off there *steps off soap box*

All I really wanted to say was ..

I was so impressed by on the online Warcraft community for last night and this was not the first time I have experienced this and I am sure it will not be the last. We definitely look after our own and it is such a wonderful thing, would just be nice if that same compassion extended to people in the real world too.

Life is short, treat people as you would like to be treated yourself & remember that there is always somebody who does care, even if you don’t even know them yet.

A Rare Relaxing Day

CampNanowrimo, Motivation, Relaxing, Support

So after an unusual day spent between sleeping, writing, a smidging of game playing and some Twitter activity (possibly more than I should have) then I have entered a good place to be.

I actually feel quite relaxed and fairly happy which is not my usual state of being so I guess this new routing can only be a good thing for me.

Joining in the the Camp Search Party today on Twitter has been a fun experience and the videos, tips and inspiration have all been happily accepted and taken on board. I am also glad that I now have a few more people to follow that are joining in with the CampNaNoWriMo, it’s nice to  see such a huge support group online, to compliment my already very friendly cabin 🙂

67% of donations now made for the cause too which is nice – so thank you peeps for the support, it is appreciated

But the best thing is that I have a whole day left before having to go back to work so I am planning on another chilled out day hooray 🙂

Nudging the arrow!

It is so nice to be able to see that arrow being nudged down towards the target, it makes me see that even my small steps are achieving something.

arrow10

My main character is starting to get a bit of erm character, and I can see some glimpses of her back story, so in actual fact those notes which I wasn’t sure about being part of the count have actually now formed part. They have been a kind of springboard for writing which is great for me as I can look at them early on and think about it throughout the day until I get in the mood to capture them in text.

I have also spent a fair bit of time with my crafting, getting things prepared for my Camp buddy swap. Really happy that I found someone with really similar interests so it’s been a pleasure to make up, even if I am a little annoyed that some ideas have had to be scratched to to broken printer ..oops.

Still it’s been an enjoyable and productive weekend.

CampNanowrimo, New friendships, Support, Writing

After many years of being signed up to the Nanowrimo and thinking that I would actually join in, I am now finally participating.

It is only the first day however my cabin mates are all friendly and helpful. Some are more experienced writers and others thankfully participating for the first time too so it is nice to have the balance. I am appreciating any of the advice given and although I feel a little strange attempting to write a story without much forward planning, it is also quite liberating.

I do not have to run my work past anyone else for approval like other writing for studies but I hope just the action of writing daily will help me to finish writing other ideas previously started,

I am also participating in a camp buddy swap so I have been very fortunate to find a like minded soul that shares the same interests and has more experience of Nanowrimo. It is great to have that extra support and advice open to me and I am am very much looking forward to the month ahead, even if it will be a busy one 😉
