I thought my first post of the New Year should be something fun and creative, so I joined in with –

I’m not sure if that last one has too much colour, but I liked it!

A Biased View

Something I wrote for a creative writing course while practising writing a Villanelle

Through Your Eyes

The knife slices slowly through

His eyes flash wildly in fear

It’s all about your point of view

Cloth over mouth: helps to subdue

A lingering scent of beer

The knife slices slowly through

A bray of pain, his legs askew

Skin glazed with scarlet smear

It’s all about your point of view

With rope pulled taut, mouth turning blue

Nothing to do but persevere

The knife sliding slowly through

A snap, a gasp, a clear breakthrough

Relief begets a cheer

Now, what about your point of view?

The last strand for this rescue

Soon to be a free deer

The knife slices slowly through

It’s all about your point of view

I wish I were a Raccoon

I wish I were a raccoon with tiny grabby hands
To know exactly what I want and openly demand
I’d sport a nice snug tail and roll instead of walk
to get me places faster and I’d never have to talk
Instead I’d have cute glassy eyes
that no one could resist
and people would just give me cake
because I would persist.

A little snuggly raccoon, full of tenacity
I’d be a chubby, fuzzy ball of voracity.

Scream if you wanna go Greener

For the #coloryourworld today it was screaming green which started with inspiration nearby..

screamgreen

Then a hunt for a little green guy I had been given

and then my thoughts kind of spiralled into a rhyming rant.

badger

The Green War!

It makes me mad
it makes me scream
This war we wage
On Nature’s dream
Instead of loving our friend Earth
We plough and pillage, drain her worth
They seem to think she’ll live forever
Suited liars that think they’re clever
And with each new corrupt endeavour
Line their pockets, kill whatever
Gets in their way on land, or sea
Especially if it starts with B
We need to make our voices heard
Oppose the greedy and absurd
Or else sit back, let fat cats win
Watch Earth die – our hopes within

There are worse things to do than have a bath at 2am

Insomnia, Poetry, Writing

There are worse things to do than have a bath at 2am

Such as listening to the buzzing of streetlights which glare through the window

Like watching the drops drip from a tap which you know has been tightened fully

Like listening to the fence groan against the pressure of the wind

Or the skitter from the room above you causing you to wish that dog ever went outside.

At 2am, you could be wrestling with thoughts that won’t submit

Your mind, a formula one track, your body the tyres,

Constantly thinning and wearing to the brink.

2am could be etching in your mind the worries of the day ahead.

A continuous list of ‘to do’s’ on an ever moving reel.

You could instead be worrying how your alarm won’t go off.

How you will be so content once finally asleep that the morning will not wake you

You could be imagining all the ways in which the day could have turned out,

Things which could have been,

Things which will now never be,

Things that tomorrow will be.

Instead you might just take a bath,

and think about all the things which could be worse to do at 2am
